[…] The Wiz: September 30-October 5, 2025 […]

The Tony® Award-winning Best Musical that took the world by storm is back. THE WIZ returns “home” to stages across America in an all-new Broadway tour coming off its Broadway revival. This groundbreaking twist on The Wizard of Oz changed the face of Broadway—from its iconic score packed with soul, gospel, rock, and 70s funk to its stirring tale of Dorothy’s journey to find her place in a contemporary world.

The Wiz welcomes you to a brilliant musical adaptation of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”. It has been a big year for reimagined versions of this classic tale, but unlike the movie adaptation of the book WICKED, this reimagining sticks very close to the classic tale you remember. With direction by Schele Williams (The Notebook, revival of Disney’s Aida), choreography by JaQuel Knight (Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies”, “Black Is King”) and additional material by Tony-nominated and Emmy-nominated writer and TV host Amber Ruffin (The Amber Ruffin Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers), this dynamite infusion of ballet, jazz, and modern pop brings a whole new groove to easing on down the road.
The Wiz first premiered on Broadway in 1975, transforming L. Frank Baum’s classic children’s novel into an all-Black “super soul musical,” as it was originally billed. The story follows Dorothy, a young woman from Harlem who after losing her parents finds herself being raised by Auntie Em on a farm in Kansas. When a tornado descends upon their farmhouse, Dorothy is transported to the fantastical land of Oz. There she embarks on a journey to find the Wiz, a powerful wizard who can help her return home after her house was destroyed when it landed on one of the Witches of Oz: Evilleen. Along the way, she befriends the Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion, who are seeking something from The Wiz that each of them lost during encounters with the surviving Wicked Witch: a brain, a heart, and courage.
The touring cast was particularly brilliant and matched up to Broadway standards in every way. Every performance was amazing, and the energy brought into the theater was unmatched. The ensemble absolutely seemed to be having the time of their lives on stage consistently. Shout out to The Scarecrow played by Elijah Ahmad Lewis who commanded the stage in every single scene he was in. The lighting, costumes, and choreography were spectacular. An absolute visual feast!
