Disney Pixar’s “Luca” is an all new new adventure just in time for summer from Director Academy Award nominee Enrico Casarosa (“La Luna”) and Producer Andrea Warren (“Lava” “Cars 3”). In 2011, as the lights dimmed at the start of the movie “Brave”, a sweet short named “La Luna” was introduced to the world. Then in 2014, theatergoers where blessed with one of my all time favorite Pixar short films, “Lava”. As with many of the short films we see from Pixar it seems as though inevitably a few years later we see a full length feature using similar styles as a preceding short film. We didn’t know it back then, but “La Luna” and “Lava” had a beautiful animation baby! Enter Pixar’s newest offering: “Luca”.
About Disney and Pixar’s “Luca”
Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, the original animated feature is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water’s surface.
“This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in ‘Luca,’” said Enrico Casarosa, director. “So in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca.” Originally the director wanted legendary Italian film composer Ennio Morricone to score this film cause he was a huge fan of his music, but died before Enrico could ask him. The film will dedicated in his memory.
When will audiences see it?
If released on it’s expected release day (June 18, 2021*) it will be Pixar’s second film to be released on June 18th, after Toy Story 3 (2010).
