Exploring Educational Opportunities for Disney Homeschooling

September 1, 2023

Walt Disney World Resort isn’t just a place for fun and entertainment… it also offers a wide array of educational experiences for Disney homeschooling families! From interactive exhibits to behind-the-scenes tours, the Park provides a unique learning environment that combines knowledge with enchantment. There are so many educational opportunities at Walt Disney World Resort, I would love to highlight some specific attractions and areas that offer valuable learning experiences for children (parents too).

Ways to explore educational opportunities at Walt Disney World Resort

Interactive Exhibits:

Walt Disney World Resort features several interactive exhibits that engage children in hands-on learning. These exhibits are designed to be both informative and entertaining, which makes Disney homeschooling a learning a captivating experience. Some notable interactive exhibits include:

A) The Seas with Nemo & Friends – Epcot:
This exhibit takes children on an underwater adventure, providing opportunities to learn about marine life, ecosystems, and conservation. The interactive displays and live animal encounters make it an educational and immersive experience.
B) The Hall of Presidents – Magic Kingdom Park:
This attraction combines history and technology to showcase the story of the United States and its Presidents. Through animatronic figures, multimedia presentations, and informative displays, children can gain insights into American history and the democratic process.

Workshops and Classes:

Walt Disney World Resort offers various workshops and classes that allow children to engage in a variety of learning experiences. These educational sessions cover a wide range of topics, from animation to culinary arts. Here are a few examples:

A) Animation Experience – Disney’s Hollywood Studios:
In this workshop, aspiring animators can learn from Disney artists and create their own Disney character drawings. It’s a fantastic opportunity for children to explore the world of animation and develop their artistic skills.
B) Wilderness Explorers – Disney’s Animal Kingdom:
Inspired by the Disney-Pixar film “Up,” this interactive experience turns children into Wilderness Explorers on a mission to learn about animals, conservation, and cultures from around the world. They can complete challenges, earn badges, and expand their knowledge through fun activities.

Behind-the-Scenes Tours:

For a deeper understanding of Walt Disney World Resort’s operations and creative processes, the behind-the-scenes tours offer a fascinating educational experience. These tours give families an exclusive glimpse into the inner workings of the park. Here are a couple of noteworthy options:
A) The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains – Magic Kingdom:
This tour takes guests on a journey to learn about the history, mechanics, and operation of Disney’s steam trains. Children can discover the importance of steam power, transportation systems, and the role trains played in shaping American history.
B) Backstage Magic – Various Parks:
For those curious about how Disney’s magic comes to life, the Backstage Magic tour offers a comprehensive behind-the-scenes exploration. Participants learn about park operations, imagineering, costuming, and more, providing a behind-the-curtain look at the park’s various aspects.

Walt Disney World Resort goes beyond entertainment by providing many educational opportunities for Disney homeschooling families. From interactive exhibits that immerse children in learning to workshops that foster creativity and behind-the-scenes tours that unveil the park’s inner workings, Walt Disney World Resort offers an enchanting environment for both education and fun! By taking advantage of these educational experiences, Disney homeschool families can make their Disney trip an unforgettable and enriching journey of discovery.

If you’re looking for a fun, nostalgia filled fami If you’re looking for a fun, nostalgia filled family film to go see in the theaters this weekend- look no further! “Harold and the Purple Crayon“ is a great film to take the whole family to the theater to see. It opens today, August 2! #HaroldAndThePurpleCrayon #sonypictures

Day two started back at check in with a security s Day two started back at check in with a security sweep and then off to visit Mosquito River Lagoon where we learned about the very real impact that the lack of data can have on ecosystems when it comes to unintended impact. Specifically decisions that are made by people that have impact on the environment without data to back up the restoration of the impacted areas. From there we took the bus to visit Launch Pad 40 up close(-ish) and get a look at the Space X Falcon 9 rocket on the pad ready to launch and send the PACE satellite to space. After that we went to the most unassuming building at NASA with probably the biggest impact, Hangar AE- Launch Services Program Communication Center. This is also called the Mission Director’s Center. This is what you see on TV when you see the “command” center. It is actually a series of rooms that are collection and storing data nonstop. We got a chance to practice calling the launch and toured the facility. We even saw the door that had all of the mission director patches on it! We then toured the Cape Canaveral Space Force Museum and got to see a lot of artifacts and interesting items and recreations of the history of the military operations regarding space that happened prior to the Apollo and Shuttle missions. It is also a former launch site, which means I have now seen 3 in real life. Our final stop for Day Two was at the Neil A. Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. We got to check out the emergency rocket escape vehicle called the MRAP. It is a former military vehicle that has found new purpose after being used in Afghanistan and now is used to protect rocket crews if something goes wrong during launch. As we were leaving we got to do something every single astronaut has done since the start of manned space missions: walk the ramp! This is the same ramp that all astronauts walk down to get into the transport vehicle that takes them to their rocket or shuttle. Day One recap of #NASAsocial for the PACE mission! Day One recap of #NASAsocial for the PACE mission! First, we arrived at press check in & rode the bus to our first stop of the day to spend some time in the classroom learning all about PACE! PACE stands for Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem. Then we headed to the press room & for a press conference for NASAtv with all female scientists & leaders of the PACE mission. This important open sourced data will be an amazing step towards combating climate change. Next we all took a moment to take pictures at the countdown clock & outside of the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB). This building is surprising on so many levels. One of the biggest surprises being just how big it truly is. It's sort of an optical illusion from the outside. You cannot truly process it's size until you are inside. Guess what we did next? We went inside of the VAB and geeked out of course! That was a wrap on Day One, and we were gifted admission to Kennedy Space Center, so some of us went over to visit my favorite girl Atlantis. #KeepingPACE PACE will advance the assessment of ocean health by measuring the distribution of phytoplankton, tiny plants and algae that sustain the marine food web. #NASAsocial #KeepingPACE
