Into the Unknown with the film premiere of Frozen 2: My Red Carpet Experience (Part One)

Into the Unknown with the film premiere of Frozen 2: My Red Carpet Experience (Part One)

“I can hear you, but I won’t.

Some look for trouble, while others don’t”

The opening lyrics to the new song “Into the Unknown“ from Disney’s Frozen 2 sung by the character Elsa really define the beginning of the journey I took to end up on the red carpet for the premiere of the movie in Los Angeles last week.

When the ladies of “The Geekly Show“ put out the call to apply for the very first retreat to learn from them about the world of entertainment writing I encouraged my friends to apply but almost did not apply for myself. I was burnt out with writing and blogging and didn’t know if it was the world I wanted to work in anymore. I have always loved film and worked in film and really felt like the world of entertainment was where I was supposed to be. I am deep in the trenches raising three children, being a wife, and homeschooling so I wasn’t sure that a stay at home mom has a place or a voice in the world of entertainment. A little voice inside me though told me that MAYBE I should apply but not to tell too many people because the chances were very slim.

“There’s a thousand reason I should go about my day.

And ignore your whispers which I wish would go away”

When the email came telling me that I had gotten a coveted spot at the retreat. I did not truly think that I had a chance of having a seat at that table, so it caught me very off guard. My numbers are small and I can be inconsistent with the amount of work I can get done due to the day-to-day of raising kids and them being my number one priority. Could I really do this? Would I look silly and fall on my face? Is this world really for me? My inner voice almost convinced me that I should turn it down.

“You’re not a voice, you’re just a ringing in my ear.”

But I didn’t. I decided to take a chance on me. With my husband’s encouragement I decided to go ahead and take the leap. Why not see if this was the bridge between blogging and entertainment that I have been looking for? Maybe. Maybe the reason I have feared wanting it is because if it is what I want I wouldn’t be enough and be able to have it. The dreaded impostor syndrome had a pretty good hold on me at that point.

Flying writing

“And if I heard you (which I don’t) I’m spoken for I fear.

Everyone I’ve ever loved is here within these walls.

I’m sorry secret siren, but I’m blocking out your calls.

I’ve had my adventure, I don’t need something new

I’m afraid of what I’m risking if I follow you into the unknown.”

This. This sums it up perfectly. I have a good life and a solid thing going right now. I rock the boat a little here and there with my little corner of the internet, but to take on such big things I feared would put the balance my life has finally achieved in jeopardy. Should I risk taking on too much and being away from my children to achieve such big dreams? I have quite a bit of happiness already, do I need more?

Yes. Yes to all of it. Yes, this is what I want. I want the unknown. I want to be more. I know in my heart what I was meant to do and I need to not only take my seat at the table, but maybe build my own.

How was the red carpet? Did I feel like an impostor there? Click here to read the details of that night.

About Frozen 2:

Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In “Frozen,” Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In “Frozen 2,” she must hope they are enough. From the Academy Award®-winning team—directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho and songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez—and featuring the voices of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen 2” opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2019.

[…] Security at these types of events is no joke! They’ll try to rush you along even when you’re an “influencer” invited to attend and take pictures of your experience. Feeling like a million bucks we slowly inched our way to the end of the red carpet, cheeseball smiling, posing and snapping pics of each other while trying to savor every single fleeting moment.  Another really unique part of this trip was that I was able to experience it with women I had met for the very first time but who shared similar aspirations and were awesome to hang with.  ( Read their posts // Back, L to R: Monica, Meg, Renee // Front L: Angie) […]

Day two started back at check in with a security s Day two started back at check in with a security sweep and then off to visit Mosquito River Lagoon where we learned about the very real impact that the lack of data can have on ecosystems when it comes to unintended impact. Specifically decisions that are made by people that have impact on the environment without data to back up the restoration of the impacted areas. From there we took the bus to visit Launch Pad 40 up close(-ish) and get a look at the Space X Falcon 9 rocket on the pad ready to launch and send the PACE satellite to space. After that we went to the most unassuming building at NASA with probably the biggest impact, Hangar AE- Launch Services Program Communication Center. This is also called the Mission Director’s Center. This is what you see on TV when you see the “command” center. It is actually a series of rooms that are collection and storing data nonstop. We got a chance to practice calling the launch and toured the facility. We even saw the door that had all of the mission director patches on it! We then toured the Cape Canaveral Space Force Museum and got to see a lot of artifacts and interesting items and recreations of the history of the military operations regarding space that happened prior to the Apollo and Shuttle missions. It is also a former launch site, which means I have now seen 3 in real life. Our final stop for Day Two was at the Neil A. Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. We got to check out the emergency rocket escape vehicle called the MRAP. It is a former military vehicle that has found new purpose after being used in Afghanistan and now is used to protect rocket crews if something goes wrong during launch. As we were leaving we got to do something every single astronaut has done since the start of manned space missions: walk the ramp! This is the same ramp that all astronauts walk down to get into the transport vehicle that takes them to their rocket or shuttle. Day One recap of #NASAsocial for the PACE mission! Day One recap of #NASAsocial for the PACE mission! First, we arrived at press check in & rode the bus to our first stop of the day to spend some time in the classroom learning all about PACE! PACE stands for Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem. Then we headed to the press room & for a press conference for NASAtv with all female scientists & leaders of the PACE mission. This important open sourced data will be an amazing step towards combating climate change. Next we all took a moment to take pictures at the countdown clock & outside of the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB). This building is surprising on so many levels. One of the biggest surprises being just how big it truly is. It's sort of an optical illusion from the outside. You cannot truly process it's size until you are inside. Guess what we did next? We went inside of the VAB and geeked out of course! That was a wrap on Day One, and we were gifted admission to Kennedy Space Center, so some of us went over to visit my favorite girl Atlantis. #KeepingPACE PACE will advance the assessment of ocean health by measuring the distribution of phytoplankton, tiny plants and algae that sustain the marine food web. #NASAsocial #KeepingPACE
