The newest trailer from the new Disney and Pixar film “Onward” has arrived and I could not be more excited to take an epic journey with this family!
Meet the Lightfoot Family
In “Onward”, Ian Lightfoot (voiced by Spider-Man’s Tom Holland) is a typical elf teenager with a hyperactive pet dragon named Blazey who seems to get himself into mischief regularly and keep Ian’s Mom Laurel Lightfoot (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) on her toes.
On Ian’s 16th birthday his mom gives him a magical staff from his father with a special spell. Though we don’t know why exactly his father passed away, he wrote a spell to pass along to them to give himself a chance for him to see who his boys grew up to be. In that moment, they discover that their father was not an accountant as they all believed but instead was a wizard!
“We’re going on a quest!”
Everything changes when Ian and his brother Barley (Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt) use the spell to conjure their dad- half of him anyway- right down to his signature purple socks. Ian may get his chance to finally meet his father but the spell only brings him back for one day, so they need to hurry to get the spell completed and see him one last time before time runs out. The two ordinary elf brothers embark on their extraordinary quest in a van named “Guinevere” to discover if there is still a little bit of magic still in the world.
“All quests start with The Manticore”
Once they perform the spell and things do not go smoothly, they seek an ancient map from Cory the Manticore (Octavia Spencer), a once fearless warrior whose tavern served as a waystation for travelers embarking on an epic quest. Part lion, part bat, and part scorpion- the Manticore has adapted to changing times, but her adventurous spirit still lurks within.
“How far would you go for one more day together?”
Ian and Barley find themselves in uncharted territory when Cory forgets to tell them about the curse that goes along with their quest. Nothing will stand in their way on the road to completing the spell and having one more day with their Dad. It also appears in the commercial that despite them attempting to conquer the quest alone their Mom and other characters will be following them and assisting them on their hero’s journey. Could those helpful characters be recently announced cast members Lena Waithe, Ali Wong, and Mel Rodriguez? I cannot wait to find out when “Onward” releases in theaters on March 6, 2020.
Here is the new trailer just released today to get you excited too!
