Pineapple Spongebob Cheese Square
PINEAPPLE CHEESE BALL RECIPE
Traditional cheese balls are a mix of cream cheese and grated or shredded cheese that are whipped creamy smooth with a few added flavorings, which are then shaped into a ball and rolled in nuts.
For this recipe, I will be only using cream cheese and instead of shredded cheese I will add crushed pineapple (à la SpongeBob‘s house). I am also adding some ingredients for flavor and eliminating the nuts for aesthetic reasons.
Ingredients:
1 (8 oz) block cream cheese, softened
1 (8 oz) can crushed pineapple, drained VERY well
1 sprig of rosemary (on the outside of square)
Sprinkle of Turmeric for color
HOW TO MAKE THIS RECIPE:
Place all ingredients into a medium-size bowl (make sure to drain the pineapple well).
Using your hands work the ingredients together.
The heat of your hands will help soften the cream cheese. Don’t overwork it though because it will make it too soft and not form a ball.
Once combined, form the mixture into a flattened square.
Wrap the square in plastic wrap and chill until firm.
Wrap up the cheese square with plastic wrap or put into airtight container. Allow it to set in the fridge for at least 2-4 hours. This lets the flavors meld together a bit.
WHAT DO YOU EAT WITH IT?
Cheese based appetizers pair perfectly with just about any type of cracker. You could also serve it on bread or with veggies.
HOW DO YOU STORE YOUR CHEESE SQUARE?
First, wrap the cheese square tightly in plastic wrap then in a layer of aluminum foil. Keeping the cheese ball well wrapped helps it keep its shape and also keeps it fresh.
HOW LONG IS THIS SNACK GOOD FOR?
Check the expiration date of the ingredients you’re using before you start. As long as everything is fresh, it should last about two weeks when stored properly in the fridge.
