We each have a story that has a warm spot in our hearts from childhood that carries it’s way into your adult world in all sorts of wonderful, unexpected ways. For me, like so many others the timeless story THE LITTLE PRINCE by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry has woven it’s fabric through so many experiences in my reality. As a child it was not the book, but the play adaptation that first introduced me to the magic of this story. My childhood beat friend May Rose played “The Prince” in a locally produced show that was one if my earliest theater experiences leading me to be drawn to the stage for life. It was after seeing the play that I dove into the book. It was the first book I read without being asked to read it or read to. It was my choice to dive in. Absolute magic!

This animated adaptation arrives on Blu-ray and DVD for the first time on February 9, 2021 from Paramount Home Entertainment. It has always been a beautifully constructed story, thus why so many have retold it and adapted it through the years. This version has the added layer of some smooth and soft animation that almost feels warm and fuzzy. It is that disarmament that let’s the deeper story of THE LITTLE PRINCE sink in. The message to never let your inner child grow up right in front of your eyes seems to seep in slowly but surely.

So what is this adaptation of THE LITTLE PRINCE about?

From the director of Kung Fu Panda comes this critically acclaimed, reimagined take on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s classic story. At it’s heart is “The Little Girl“ (played by Mackenzie Foy), prepared by her mother (Rachel McAdams) for the very grown-up real world. After her eccentric, kind hearted neighbor, “The Aviator“ (brilliantly played by Jeff Bridges) introduces her to an extraordinary world where anything is possible, she learns of the Little Prince (portrayed by Riley Osborne). And so begins the magical and emotional journey where one learns, amongst other things, it’s the human connections that matter most.
