Better-For-You, Better-For-Them
Have you ever felt like the problems of the world are simply too big for you to have any impact on? I feel that way a lot. I strongly suspect that the four talented people behind This Bar Saves Lives felt the same way. They did something about it. They created a giveback company that is on a mission to end childhood undernourishment worldwide.
Why should you care?
Since having kids, I’ve become especially sensitive to the idea that there are children in this world that are hungry. As soon as I became a mom one of my only thoughts throughout the day was about feeding my child. It was at a point where I became anxious to the point of being physically effected if I thought that my child was hungry and I have not fed her. If I am being honest, I still have those moments when I didn’t plan enough snacks and I suddenly start to get nervous as to whether or not they are hungry. The satisfaction I derive from a full refrigerator I’m sure requires some therapy and is deeply rooted in my own childhood lack of food. The privilege in being able to have the opportunity to overcome my own issues and do better for my children is not lost on me. When I heard about this company my heart sang with the idea that I may actually be able to do something of real importance in the fight to feed the world.
How do they giveback?
Since its founding, the company says it has provided more than 3.5 million nutrient packets to children suffering from malnutrition, impacting more than 270,000 lives. How does it do that? It is very simple set up: you purchase a bar, they purchase a Plumpy’Nut pack (a “ready-to-use therapeutic food” that’s used to treat severe malnutrition) for a person in need. Win-win. Plumpy’Nut, a peanut-based base solution that is used to help malnourished kids get essential vitamins and nutrients.
Healthy snacking
According to a TIME Magazine article in 2017, This Bar Saves Lives was naked one of the “5 of the Healthiest Granola Bars” according to nutrition experts. This is because that while they contain mostly nuts and seeds, the low sugar content is very much unlike other competitors for your snacking needs (not to mention the fulfilling satisfaction of feeding not only yourself but a malnourished child in need). There are many flavor combinations to choose from:
Dark Chocolate & Cherry
Madagascar Vanilla Almond & Honey
Dark Chocolate & Peanut Butter
Wild Blueberry & Pistachio
Dark Chocolate & Coconut
PB & J
Kids Chocolate Chip
Maple Pecan (Seasonal Flavor)
This Bar Saves Lives is available in stores including Target, Starbucks, Whole Foods and Amazon or you can click here: https://www.thisbarsaveslives.
